Hello followers :)
Today I helped clean the Ark and prepare lunch. Its turning into a routine. Which I LOVE because I get to spend time with a new staff person every day. While we sit in the kitchen and wait for the "PAP" (pronounced pup) to cook, or the bisquits to fry.
When the kids came today we helped them with their reading. It is amazing the level these kids are reading at. Before they began to come here, they were very below grade level. And now although still way below grade level, they are improving! The weird thing is they teach the kids in a native tongue Africaans until about 4th grade, then they teach in only English. english is the official language in Namibia. So we cant figure out why they dont stick to english when teaching. It makes the children so confused.
I helped one child read and she was so proud. She wanted to keep reading to me, to show me how she could read. After she finished the book, I gave her a hug and told her how wonderful it was to hear her reading. She was so proud, the huge white smile on her beautiful black face will be forever in my memory!
After we sent the other children home, the director drove us to 5 of the girls homes. As we traveled down the road, trash piled high in the streets. Children ALL over the place, without shoes as they walk on broken glass, small children without diapers on. The houses were made of scrap metal. Put together to form a one room home. The sight was heartbreaking. These children come to the Ark and recieve a meal, often the only meal of the day. My heart breaks for them. Our children are so lucky! We are so blessed to be born in America! And i long to hold my children in my arms and praise Him for the blessings we have!!
